Bach Re-Imagined

Very few ensembles specializing in early music can display a level of artistic mastery akin to that of the Berliner Barock Solisten. Comprised of prominent members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, the musicians have created a unique approach to performing works of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Their flexibility and homogeneity is virtually unparalleled internationally, having elicited worldwide acclaim from both public and press. The ensemble’s activities are documented on a rich discography with Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, and other leading labels.

Alexandros Kapelis has teamed up with the ensemble and has recorded the complete concertos for solo keyboard and orchestra by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1052-1058), joining a select group of only five pianists who have ever recorded these works in their entirety. The recording also marks the first time that the musicians of the renowned orchestra have recorded the entire set. Together, they embark into a series of worldwide performances, kicking off their tour with a documentary at Bach's final resting place at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, followed by a much-acclaimed performance in London’Barbican Centre of all concertos in one evening, a feat described as “a tour-de-force not seen on the concert stage in recent memory.” Praised by The Guardian as a "ravishing period immersion", the press went on to note that Kapelis "combined the ornate decoration you would expect from a harpsichord – agile, swerving scales; filigree trills and ornaments that pinged off the starting note – with techniques available only on the modern piano”, and that "the effect was like the costumes in Bridgerton: authentic silhouette; bright, modern palette."
